FAQs
Where are your clothes made?
AI Clothing will not hide or mislead you on the country of origin for any of our products, the tags on our clothing will always show where it was made. AI Clothing currently sources blank items of clothing from AS Colour, a kiwi owned and operated company that manufactures their products in Bangladesh and China.
The ethical and environmental challenges that come with manufacturing in these countries is well known, no thanks to the rise in popularity of fast fashion. However, AS Colour is committed to creating and operating an ethically responsible supply chain that focuses on the well-being of those who work within their supply chain; from the raw materials that are used in their products, to the factories charged with producing great quality products.
AS Colour ensures workers and environments within their supply chain are not being exploited by working closely with a small number of manufacturers and farms, conducting in person sight visits and in depth audits, using theirs and other like-minded fashion brands presence as a collective voice to influence positive changes in the fashion manufacturing industry.
AI Clothing is exploring the possibility of manufacturing products within New Zealand.
The fashion industry is one of the largest contributors to global pollution, isn’t it counter-intuitive to start a clothing company to reduce pollution?
The fashion industry is indeed one the largest contributors to global pollution, producing “8-10% of global CO2 emissions (4-5 billion tonnes annually). The fashion industry is also a major consumer of water (79 trillion litres per year), responsible for ~20% of industrial water pollution from textile treatment and dyeing, contributes ~35% (190,000 tonnes per year) of oceanic primary micro-plastic pollution and produces vast quantities of textile waste (>92 million tonnes per year)”[1].
On the surface it may seem counter-intuitive, maybe even hypocritical, to tackle unethical practices and pollution by way of starting a company in an industry notorious for these exact things. But, by operating within such an industry we can affect the changes that must happen to clean up not only the fashion industry, but business itself. There is a growing number of like minded fashion brands sprouting up across the globe and soon the accountability and sustainability AI Clothing is pushing for will become the standard business practice expected of the 21st century.
With this in mind it is the goal of AI Clothing to introduce alternative business practices to the world of fashion, demonstrating that fashion can exist in a new green, environmentally conscious world. Every step that AI Clothing’s products take have been carefully vetted to guarantee minimal pollution. From the causes we are supporting we are also ensuring our carbon emissions are being offset from the shipping required in our operations.
